Monet Tejada in 'Divided We Stand’ Power Book II: Ghost Season 3 Finale

Divided we stand. That title sounds like it should be divided we fall. And in this finale the Tejada family is absolutely divided. But Monet Tejada? She does not fall. She never falls. She gets shot, she gets betrayed by her own children, and she STILL ends this season more powerful than she started it. If that is not the Queen I don't know what is.

The Betrayal

Here is what Dru and Diana did. They planned a hit on their own mother. They arranged for Tariq to be in position to kill Monet while they set Tariq up to take the blame. Diana even disguised herself in a red wig to deliver a letter to Tommy's mother that exposed Tasha's location. The whole thing was an elaborate frame.

But before Tariq can pull the trigger, Tasha shows up and opens fire on the car Monet and Diana are in. Monet gets shot. She is rushed to the hospital. And then something extraordinary happens.

Monet's Ultimate Power Move

We all should have known Monet Tejada was not going down without a fight. Even shot, even hospitalized, even having just discovered that two of her own children tried to have her killed, she makes a deal with Noma. She uses the fact that her street team is the only one able to move Noma's product as leverage. And in one move she locks in control of the entire business AND control over her children.

The Tejada kids, Tariq, and Brayden all get the news: they now answer to Monet. She is the point of contact. She is back in charge. She got shot by Tasha, betrayed by Dru and Diana, and she still came out on top. That is Monet Tejada.

The Fendi Moment

The image of Monet in her Fendi coat in this finale is one of the most iconic visual moments of the entire series. She is still standing. After everything that happened this season she is still here and she is still the Queen. The Fendi Black Lace and Pink Cropped Jacket she wears is a statement: delicate on the surface and absolutely unbreakable underneath.

Mary's Season 3 Performance

Season 3 asked Mary J. Blige to play grief, revenge, political maneuvering, family betrayal, physical danger, and ultimate triumph all in ten episodes. She delivered every single one with complete authenticity and power. The Season 3 finale is a masterclass and I could watch it on repeat.
