One of my favorite things about the final season of Power Book II: Ghost is watching Monet and Tariq operate as genuine allies. After four seasons of them circling each other with wariness and mutual respect and occasional hostility, seeing them actually work together toward the same goal is something special. And Higher Calling is the episode where that partnership really comes into focus.

Monet and Tariq Scheme Together

With Carter holding leverage over both of them, Monet and Tariq devise a plan to escape his control by making a play to Noma. It is bold and risky and exactly the kind of move that only these two together would think of. Tariq brings the youth and the adaptability. Monet brings the experience and the ruthlessness. Together they are formidable.

The scenes between Mary and Michael Rainey Jr. in this episode are some of the best of the season. There is genuine warmth between them now alongside the strategy. They have been through too much together for it to be purely transactional anymore. Monet respects Tariq. And Tariq, whether he will admit it or not, needs Monet.

A Higher Calling for Monet

The title takes on a personal meaning for Monet in this episode. She is reaching toward something that feels different from anything she has wanted before. It is not about power exactly. It is not about the business. It is about leaving something behind that is worth leaving.

Diana is pregnant. There is going to be a grandchild. And for the first time Monet is thinking about legacy in a way that goes beyond the empire. What she passes down. Who she is when the business is gone. That is the higher calling this title is pointing toward.

The Advice Scene

There is a scene where Monet is advising Tariq and Mary plays it with this quality of someone who is also talking to herself. The things she says to him about survival, about knowing when to hold and when to let go, are things she is still actively learning. That is one of the most beautiful things about this performance. Monet is not done growing. Even in the final season. Even with everything. She is still becoming.
