Monet Tejada in 'Human Capital’ Power Book II: Ghost Season 3 Episode 3

Show: Power Book II: Ghost | Season 3, Episode 3 | Network: Starz |  Aired: March 31, 2023

Human capital. In business that term refers to the value of people and what they bring to an organization. In the Tejada drug empire it means something a lot more literal and a lot more dangerous. And nobody understands the value and the cost of human capital better than Monet Tejada.

The Episode

Episode 3 brings the Tejadas and Davis MacLean together to figure out how to handle the Whitman problem. Davis is sharp, strategic, and has resources that Monet needs right now. The alliance between Monet and Davis is one of the most interesting dynamics of Season 3 because they are two highly intelligent people who respect each other even as they are constantly calculating how to use each other.

Meanwhile Monet is digging deeper into the circumstances of Zeke's murder. Davis has given her new information and she is following every thread with the focus and intensity of someone who will not rest until she has answers. That mission is the emotional engine of Season 3 and Mary plays it with a quiet ferocity that is completely compelling.

The Business on Wall Street

Season 3 expands the show's scope in an interesting way by taking the drug business into the world of Wall Street through Brayden's family hedge fund. Monet is watching all of this develop with the eyes of someone who understands that more money means more exposure and more exposure means more risk. She is not against the expansion. She just knows what it costs.

What Mary Brings

There is a scene in this episode where Monet receives a piece of new information about Zeke's murder and you can see the moment it lands. The calculation in her eyes. The grief underneath the calculation. Mary does not separate those two things. They exist in the same look at the same time. That is extraordinary acting.
