Monet Tejada in 'Need vs Greed’ Power Book II: Ghost Season 3 Episode 2

Show: Power Book II: Ghost | Season 3, Episode 2 | Network: Starz |  Aired: March 24, 2023

Need versus greed. In Monet Tejada's world that distinction has never been simple. Everything she has ever done has been framed as need. The family needs protection. The operation needs to keep running. Her children need her. But Season 3 is starting to ask whether some of those needs are actually something darker.

The Episode

Episode 2 of Season 3 puts Monet directly in the crosshairs of federal investigator Kevin Whitman. He pulls her over and questions her about Carrie, Zeke, and Ramirez and her involvement in all of their deaths. Monet denies everything of course. She is practiced at that. But Whitman does not believe her for a single second and he makes it very clear he is not going away.

The scene between Monet and Whitman is one of the great cat and mouse moments of the season. He is smart and relentless. She is smarter and more experienced. And Mary plays every exchange with Monet's signature combination of surface calm and internal calculation. She is being interrogated by a federal agent and she somehow makes it look like she is the one in control of the conversation.

The Tejada Family Fallout

Meanwhile the family is still reeling from everything that came out at the end of Season 2. Lorenzo is dealing with his own guilt and secrets. Cane is trying to assert himself. Dru is navigating his complicated personal life. And Monet is trying to manage all of it while simultaneously pursuing Zeke's killer and keeping the feds from building a case.

The title Need vs Greed applies specifically to Monet in this episode. She needs to grieve her son. She needs to protect her family. She needs to run the operation. That is already more than most people could handle. But she also wants revenge. She wants control. And the question Season 3 keeps asking is: where does need end and where does something less justifiable begin?

Mary in This Episode

The Whitman interrogation scene alone is worth the price of admission. Mary gives us Monet at her most controlled and most dangerous simultaneously. Absolutely riveting television.
