Monet Tejada in 'Sex Week' — Power Book II: Ghost Season 1 Episode 7
Show: Power Book II: Ghost | Season 1, Episode 7 | Network: Starz | Aired: November 15, 2020
Sex Week at Stansfield University means the campus social scene is on overdrive. Which means more opportunities, more risks, and more chances for everything to go sideways. And when things go sideways in this show, Monet Tejada always ends up right in the middle of it.
The Episode
Episode 7 uses the backdrop of Sex Week to push several storylines forward simultaneously. Tariq is navigating the chaos on campus while also trying to keep his drug operation running. The Tejada family drama continues to simmer. And Monet is keeping her eyes on all of it from her position at the top.
What I love about this episode is how it uses the college setting to contrast against Monet's world. These students are stressed about finals and relationships. Monet is stressed about keeping her family alive and her empire intact. The show keeps that contrast alive throughout the season and it gives everything Monet does extra weight.

Monet Watching
One of the things Mary does brilliantly in episodes like this is what I would call the watching scenes. There are moments where Monet is observing rather than acting, taking in information, assessing people. And Mary makes those moments just as compelling as the scenes where Monet is making moves. You can see her thinking. You can see her calculating. And it is riveting.
What Makes This Episode Work
Sex Week is an episode that keeps all the plates spinning and does it well. The humor of the college setting, the danger of the Tejada storylines, and the emotional undercurrents of Monet's family life all coexist in a way that feels organic. And at the center of all of it is Mary, grounding everything in reality just by being present.
