Monet Tejada in 'What's Free?' — Power Book II: Ghost Season 2 Episode 6
Show: Power Book II: Ghost | Season 2, Episode 6 | Network: Starz | Aired: January 9, 2022
What's free? In Monet Tejada's world the answer is nothing. Not a single thing. Everything comes with a price, an obligation, a string attached. And this episode starts making Monet confront whether that is a life she actually chose or a life that was chosen for her.
The Episode
Episode 6 finds Tariq reflecting on who he can trust, which is almost nobody. Brayden is being pulled between protecting his own family and helping Tariq's. And for Monet, this episode brings a new world order within her own family that she did not see coming and is not sure how to handle.
The Mecca situation is developing in ways that are becoming impossible to contain. The feelings Monet has for him are real and they are interfering with her judgment in ways that are starting to have real consequences for the operation. This is new territory for Monet and Mary plays the disorientation of it beautifully.

Monet and Freedom
The title What's Free? is doing something interesting thematically in relation to Monet specifically. She runs everything. She has power that most people in her world would kill for. And yet she is not free. She has never been free. She is bound to Lorenzo, to her children, to the operation, to a life she built brick by brick and now cannot leave even if she wanted to.
Mecca represents a version of freedom she never got to have. And that is exactly why he is dangerous to her. Not because of the drug business. Because of what he makes her feel about the life she chose.
A Turning Point
Episode 6 is a turning point in Season 2 because the personal and professional worlds that Monet has always kept carefully separated are starting to bleed into each other. And once that happens in this show, things move fast. Mary is setting all of it up with precision and I was completely riveted.
