Rob Peace is based on Jeff Hobbs' 2014 biography The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace. Robert DeShaun Peace grew up in poverty in Newark, New Jersey, earned a full scholarship to Yale University where he studied molecular biophysics and biochemistry, became beloved by everyone who knew him, and throughout it all continued dealing drugs. The impossible balance between the elite academic world that had chosen him and the street world that had shaped him eventually cost him everything.
