Because I am telling you right now, this little four-episode series will rearrange your emotions in the best possible way. And our girl Mary J. Blige voicing a battle-worn patchwork teddy bear with a needle sword? I was not prepared. I was not prepared at all.
About Lost Ollie
Lost Ollie is based on William Joyce's children's book Ollie's Odyssey and follows Ollie, a lost stuffed rabbit, who wakes up in a thrift store with no memory of how he got there. All he knows is that he needs to find Billy, the little boy who loved him. He sets off on an epic, dangerous, and emotionally devastating journey to find his way home. The series was produced by the same team behind Stranger Things and directed by Peter Ramsey who directed Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse.
Mary as Rosy
Rosy is a patchwork teddy bear stitched together from other toys. She has an eye patch. She wields a needle sword. She is tough, guarded, and has never had an owner who loved her. She does not know what it feels like to belong to someone. So she protects herself the only way she knows how, by being the fiercest, most capable fighter in the room.
But as the series goes on, Rosy starts to let Ollie and Zozo in. She starts to trust. And watching that battered little bear choose love even though she has every reason not to had me completely in tears. Because that is Mary's whole story. Everything she has survived and she still shows up with her whole heart. You cannot fake that kind of emotional truth. Mary brought it to Rosy because she lives it.
The Moment That Got Me
Early in the series a dog chases Ollie and Rosy swoops in out of nowhere with her needle sword and runs that dog completely off the property. I hollered. That is Monet Tejada energy in a teddy bear body and I was absolutely here for every second of it.
Lost Ollie is only four episodes. You can watch it in one night. And I promise you it will be one of the best decisions you make this week.
