The boss? The survivor? The answer this episode gives us is: all of it, all at once, and she does not apologize for any of it.

The Episode

Episode 2 finds Tariq and Brayden struggling to adjust to life as normal broke college students after everything that happened. That contrast is almost funny if the stakes were not so high. And Monet? She wants back into the game. She is not interested in retirement. She never was. She also wants answers about who took shots at her and she is going to get them.

Meanwhile Noma is making moves to expand with the Russians. The chessboard of Season 4 is being set up in this episode and Monet is watching every piece move while plotting her own next step.

Janet Stewart Keeps It Real

One of the new dynamics of Season 4 that I absolutely love is Janet Stewart, Monet's cousin played by Golden Brooks. Janet tells Monet the truth that nobody else will say to her face. In this episode she says something that lands like a bomb: she tells Monet that since she has been in the house she has realized it was always Monet who was the problem and not Lorenzo.

The look on Mary's face in that moment is everything. Monet hears it. She does not agree with it. But she hears it. And you can see a flicker of something underneath the surface. That is the kind of acting that wins awards.
